Day 989: Wolfram - "Computational Knowledge Engine" - Yet Another Google Wannabe?

When it comes to FAILING search engines, nothing comes closer to CUIL (Pronounced as Ph-ale). They said it indexed the whole interbots for us to see. Funny, when I CUILED my name it showed my profile.

With Google, the indubitable money making behemoth that it is. It shouldn't come as a surprise for us to see yet another Google wannabe, this time promising yes - more data. As if we needed more.

Interestingly they call it a "computational knowledge engine".

I wasn't invited to its *private invitation only preview*. Too bad, it sounded fun.

But apparently these guys were given their invitation slips. According to them,

"Wolfram Alpha is like a cross between a research library, a graphing calculator, and a search engine."

Looks like a monster doesn't it?

Well, it looks like it's something for the scientific and geek elite. Basically, that means that it isn't really for the masses. If it isn't for the masses it is not Google.

Well, to each his own.

So to you dear reader, like me, you will just have to wait and see what it can and can't do. But this I am sure.

Google is search.
